Agua de Jamaica
Agua de flor de Jamaica is a refreshing beverage, colorful, and ever so slightly tart. It’s tasty, simple to prepare (like any tea), and for a couple of bucks you can make two quarts of the stuff. Great for a summer barbecue or picnic. Serve with fruits and or ginger.
Jamaica is high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Work out? Jamaica is high in electrolytes such as chloride, magnesium, potassium and sodium, and will replenish electrolytes after exercising, spending a day in the sun or a long day on the beach. Me, I like it with gin after a hard workout.
Ingredients
½ cup dried Jamaica
1/3 cup sugar
1 qt water
1 lime, sliced
Preparation
Add the water into a 2 quart sauce pan and bring it to boil. Add the sugar and Jamaica into the boiling water and boil for 3 minutes and remove from the flame. Cover and steep for 10 minutes.
Strain through fine mesh strainer into a large, heat-resistant pitcher or container. Set aside to cool.
Chill cold and garnish with a slice of lime. Or serve over ice.
Notes
Jamaica flowers can be found in bulk or in cellophane packages in most hispanic stores. Good as a vodka or gin cocktail.
