Cantaloupe Margarita Cocktail

Cantaloupe Margarita Cocktail

On this blog you will find my “Sopa de Melón Fría” recipe which I recently served for a dinner party and from the left-over cantaloupe soup I added some tequila and ice and Voilà.  Thought I created an original recipe; not the case. None the less I felt compelled to share my story and recipe with you.  Eliminate the tequila if you like and have an innovative summer drink.

The traditional margarita cocktail includes orange flavored liqueurs such as cointreau, triple-sec and others.   In my recipe, I substitute simple-syrup to maximize the cantaloupe flavor.  Try it, you’ll love it.  Let’s get started.

Ingredients

Base

Makes 4 cups juice

2 ½ lbs cantaloupe melon

2 limes for juice and zest for one of the two

⅓ cup simple syrup (see note)

½ cup water

Margarita cocktail

½ cup base

2 oz tequila blanco

Ice

Preparation

Base

Peel, seed and cube the cantaloupe melon.  Place the cantaloupe in a blender or food processor and liquify.  As needed, thin out the juice with water.  Stir in lime juice, zest, simple syrup.  Taste for sweetness and if desired add more simple syrup.

Margarita cocktail

Fill the glass with ice, add ½ cup base, stir in 2 oz tequila blanco and enjoy

Note

Simple Syrup recipe:  In a sauce pan, mix equal parts granulated sugar and water.  Heat at medium temperature until dissolved and cool.  Syrup be stored in a jar with a tight lid for 1 month.
